On December 4, 2025, Urgench State University and Urgench State Medical University jointly informed industry representatives about the work carried out within the framework of the I2PLEDGE program.

This event was held in Building 3 of the Urgench State Medical Institute. In addition to representatives of both universities, the event was attended by employees of the Khorezm Regional Health Department, representatives of clinics such as Baby Med, Ideal Fayz, Saida Nodir.

At the event, PhD O.Khujaev, Head of the Department of Computer Engineering at Urgench State University, informed the participants about the work carried out within the framework of the I2PLEDGE and UZMEDEN projects, and the importance of the Biomedical Engineering field.

Practical-informational training session at Tashkent State Medical University

Today, teachers of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Informatics, and Biophysics at Tashkent State Medical University (TSMU) held an Open Day for students from medical colleges and the university's lyceum. The event was titled Second National Event for Dissemination of the Results” of I2-PLEDGE - "A New Level in Medicine: Biomedical Engineering and Digital Medicine."Modern medicine is increasingly intertwined with information technology, artificial intelligence, engineering solutions, and digital devices. Biomedical engineering, at the center of these changes, plays an invaluable role in facilitating doctors' work, enabling early detection of diseases, improving diagnostic accuracy, and elevating the quality of medical services provided to patients to a new level.

During today's event, students from three academic lyceums and four medical colleges in Tashkent, the Chilanzar District Polytechnic Institute, and the Bekabad Specialized School were able to learn about the practical significance and potential of this field.

The event was opened by TashDavTU Vice-Rector S. Baymakov, who gave the formal opening in the lyceum's lecture hall. The event was attended by M.I. Bazarbaev, Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Informatics, and Biophysics; Dilafruz Ortikova, GIZ Healthcare Program Specialist; Makhmudjon Utkurov, Project Manager of the National Erasmus+ Office; D. Azimov, Leading Specialist of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Care in Tashkent; Ibrokhim Abdullaev, Specialist of the Department of Engineering and Technical Personnel for Medical Equipment and Innovative Technologies at the Center for the Development of Professional Qualifications of Medical Workers; and others, who presented reports on the relevance and development prospects of biomedical engineering.

In addition, Anna Tozzi and Massimiliano D'Innocenzo, Professors from the University of L'Aquila (Italy), also participated in online presentations. During today's event, students from academic lyceums and technical schools were able to learn about the practical significance and potential of international connections established in this area through the European Union's Erasmus+ I2-PLEDGE projects and the German GIZ healthcare program.

Following this, the students actively participated in practical classes on mathematical modeling, circuit design, medical device servicing, programming, artificial intelligence in education, 3D printing and scanning, and were also introduced to biomedical engineering. Here, they learned firsthand about the practical applications of biomedical technologies, digital and early diagnostics, smart medical equipment, AI-based treatment methods, and the relationship between science and the labor market.

Times are changing rapidly, and these changes are clearly visible, especially in areas related to human health. Areas such as biotechnology, digital medicine, artificial intelligence, and biomedical engineering mark a new era in modern medicine. In particular, the integration of medicine with modern technologies in Uzbekistan, innovation centers, new laboratories, and research capabilities offer enormous opportunities for young people. The goal of today's event was to introduce students to the most advanced areas of medicine, demonstrate the future role of biomedical engineering, and give them a realistic understanding of the new opportunities created by digital medicine. They were greatly impressed.

On December 4 of this year, at 10:00, an Info Day will be held on the Erasmus+ I2-PLEDGE (“Innovative and Interdisciplinary Programmes in Biomedical Engineering to Leverage and Exploit the Digital Growth programme for students’ Employability in Uzbekistan”) project in the 3rd floor of the 3rd building of the Urgench State Medical Institute.

The final conference of the I2-PLEDGE project is taking place

On 13–14 November, the final conference of the Erasmus+ I2-PLEDGE (“Innovative and Interdisciplinary Programmes in Bio-medical Engineering to Leverage and Exploit the Digital Growth Programme for Students’ Employability in Uzbekistan”) project is taking place at Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent.

The event, held in cooperation with TTPU and the Tashkent State Medical University, is attended by representatives of the European Union, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, leading higher education institutions of Greece, Italy and Uzbekistan, international experts and partner organizations.

The event was opened with welcoming remarks by TTPU Rector Olimjon Tuychiev, who greeted all participants and emphasized the importance of the I2-PLEDGE project in developing the biomedical engineering sector in Uzbekistan.

During the conference, experts are presenting and discussing the project’s implemented results, the modernization of educational programmes, the introduction of new study directions in biomedical engineering, experience exchange among partner universities, and future sustainable cooperation areas.

The defense of graduation qualification works by students of the “Biomedical Engineering” educational program at Andijan State Technical Institute is being organized at a high level.

As is well known, the graduation qualification work represents the final stage of a university student’s academic preparation. It is an independent, comprehensive project aimed at demonstrating the student’s ability to apply scientific-theoretical, professional, and practical knowledge to solve specific problems.

During the defense sessions, students presented the results of their scientific research, which had been developed over an extended period in collaboration with their supervisors and academic advisors. They thoroughly demonstrated their findings, answered questions, and successfully defended their works.

This process provides each student with an opportunity to demonstrate their acquired knowledge and skills in practice, to consolidate the theoretical and practical competencies gained throughout their studies, and to prove their readiness as qualified specialists — thereby opening up prospects for future employment in their professional field.

The I2-PLEDGE Project Meeting and Training Sessions Successfully Concluded at the University of L’Aquila, Italy

From May 27 to 29, 2025, the University of L’Aquila (Italy) hosted the next coordination meeting and capacity-building training sessions within the framework of the Erasmus+ funded project “I2-PLEDGE: Development and Implementation of Innovative and Interdisciplinary Programs in Biomedical Engineering in Uzbekistan.”

The event was organized as part of the European Union’s Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) initiative and brought together more than 20 representatives from two European universities, one training center, and seven higher education institutions of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

During the three-day sessions, professors and lecturers had the opportunity to exchange experience and learn about the EU’s advanced practices in the field of biomedical engineering. The training focused on innovative teaching methodologies, interdisciplinary program development, and the integration of modern technologies into biomedical education.

Participants also discussed the project’s progress, achievements, and upcoming activities aimed at strengthening biomedical engineering education and research capacity in Uzbekistan.

The I2-PLEDGE project continues to play a vital role in fostering international cooperation between European and Uzbek universities, contributing to the modernization and innovation of higher education programs in the field of biomedical engineering.

Memorandum of Understanding Signed Between Andijan State Medical Institute and the University of L’Aquila

From May 27 to 29, 2025, at the University of L’Aquila in Italy, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Andijan State Medical Institute and the University of L’Aquila within the framework of the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.

The cooperation aims to strengthen academic and research collaboration in the field of Biomedical Engineering, as part of the “I2-PLEDGE: Innovative and Interdisciplinary Program in Learning and Education for Biomedical Engineering in Uzbekistan” project.

During the visit, representatives of partner universities took part in the project’s follow-up meeting and training sessions, which were successfully completed. The training focused on enhancing academic capacity, sharing best practices, and developing new educational modules in biomedical engineering.

As a result of the collaboration, the universities agreed to continue joint research initiatives, exchange programs for students and staff, and the development of innovative educational resources.

Seminars were held in Jizzakh within the framework of the Erasmus+ CBHE 101082242 project

The team of the Department of “Biomedical Engineering, Informatics and Biophysics” of the Tashkent Medical Academy paid a practical visit to higher educational institutions of the Jizzakh region and held seminars in the I2-PLEDGE “Biomedical Engineering” direction.

🔹 Head of the Department, Associate Professor M.I. Bazarbayev and assistants F. Arzikulov, U. Isroilov, S. Egamov discussed cooperation issues with the Faculty of Energy Engineering of the Jizzakh Polytechnic Institute.
🔹 A seminar was also held at the Faculty of Medicine of the Jizzakh State Pedagogical University, where the possibilities of scientific and academic cooperation within the framework of the project were widely discussed.

📌 These visits serve to develop innovative approaches in the field of biomedical engineering and expand opportunities for inter-university exchange of experience.

“The first national meeting for disseminate the results” of I2-PLEDGE project

On February 15, 2025, a meeting with heads and technical staff of medical institutions was organized at the Andijan Machine-Building Institute within the framework of the I2-Pledge project. The meeting was attended by the team and technical staff of the Andijan branch of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Care and the Andijan State Medical Institute clinic, employees of private medical clinics, doctors, researchers and students.

The meeting provided detailed information about the project's goals, objectives and results achieved to date. At the same time, topical issues such as biomedical engineering educational programs in Uzbekistan, the role of medical engineers in medical institutions, the use of modern medical technologies in medicine, and the interrelationship of medicine and engineering were discussed.

Representatives from L'AQUILA University in Italy, the University of North Macedonia in Greece, the Epimorphofotiki Kilkis Center, and from Uzbekistan, the Turin Polytechnic University in Tashkent, the Tashkent Medical Academy, the Andijan Institute of Mechanical Engineering, the Andijan State Medical Institute, the Urgench branch of the Tashkent University of Information Technologies named after Muhammad al-Khwarizmi, the Urgench branch of the Tashkent Medical Academy, the Abu Rayhon Beruni Tashkent State Technical University, and the Medical Equipment Service Training and Production Centers are participating.
